Learning to speak a modern foreign language is a very enriching experience. The process of encouraging your child to step outside their comfort zone whilst having fun is an excellent way to build their confidence. It also enhances your child’s analytical thinking and strengthens their memory, as they learn new vocabulary and grammar. Learning to speak another language will also enhance your child’s communication skills and give them a major sense of achievement.

Visiting a Spanish-speaking country becomes a far more meaningful experience if your child can connect better with their surroundings through speaking. In my thirty years of leading school trips as a French and Spanish secondary teacher, nothing beats seeing students beam with pride when they find that they can order their own ice-cream or meal or ask how to get to a particular place!

This club is specifically designed for students who want to improve their spoken Spanish. It is ideal for young people wanting to improve their Spanish conversation skills for holidays, as well as students preparing to take the GCSE exam, together with any young person who is inspired by the joy of speaking a different language!

We will cover general conversation themes such as introductions and talking about yourself and your family, together with transactional Spanish for situations like shopping, buying transport tickets, going to a pharmacy, checking in to a hotel and reporting problems. We will also look at how to describe a particular scene, which is one of the requirements of the new GCSE Spanish speaking exam (and remember, the speaking component counts for 25% of the Spanish GCSE exam).

This course is ideal for students to do alongside both years one and two of our Spanish GCSE class, students in our Spanish Intermediate year 2 class who have GCSE in their sights, or any young person who has a prior knowledge of Spanish and wants to focus on improving their oral fluency.
