We are very excited to launch our new French GCSE course! This two-year course will help you prepare for the new specification AQA French GCSE exam in 2027. The Y1 course is aimed at students going into KS4, who already have some knowledge of French, and is ideal for students who will complete our French Intermediate Year 2 course this Summer.

We will cover all the topics in the new syllabus, and help you improve your confidence in the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Remember that in the exam, these four skills each carry 25% of the overall mark, so I will be encouraging you to take part in speaking activities right from the first lesson!

Throughout the course we will use specimen exam questions so that you become familiar with the required exam technique, and there will be optional learning activities set after each lesson to help you consolidate what we’ve done in class. I normally set a choice of two or three optional tasks each week and they are graded in difficulty, so that everyone can find something useful to do by way of independent work in between lessons.

I have been teaching French GCSE for almost 30 years now, and I am very excited about delivering this new course. The new exam specifications seem to be designed to give students a fairer chance of getting the best grade possible, as all the exam instructions are in English. This seems like a great improvement to me!
